Fun suggestions to be ready for Christmas
How to encourage girls' interest in tech — Newsletter No.17
Hi! You probably didn’t notice that we missed your inbox last week, but let’s not ignore it for those of you who did. We decided to avoid the Black Friday/Cyber Monday craze for your attention and $.
It’s suggestions time and the topic of the week, very expectedly, is — Christmas.
🎄 Make a lighting Christmas tree
Soft Circuit Christmas ornament is a project older kids could do on their own with a bit of guidance. Although this tutorial is for ornaments, this same project can be larger in size — for example for a decoration. And, lastly, this same thing can be then applied to many other concepts even once Christmas is over, and we all know that repetition is key to learning. Check out the tutorial here and share your results with us!
🎶 Christmas JukeBox
Making your own mini Christmas jukebox is simpler than you think, especially if you already own an Arduino. This simple circuit design from YouTuber Andy Tran uses simple and cheap components which cost only cents (and are usually found in Arduino Starter Kits) to inject some Christmas cheer into the vicinity!
And please, let your kid choose the tunes, ‘cause we all know what you will add ;)
🧮 Coding ornament
Code without a computer, learn about the binary alphabet, and craft a simple ornament all in one great Christmas STEM project. Check out the tutorial here and we look forward to seeing which colors you choose to use!
🎄 Spinning Christmas tree or ornament (2 for 1)
This is fairly simple to make, and also not too complicated when it comes to supplies needed, and it is suitable for kids of all ages. They can be creative in making their Christmas trees (or even change them to another shape) and learn a bit about magnets and electricity. A detailed tutorial is here.
And here is the one based on the same principle, but a different shape — ornaments going round. So, with the same supplies, you can do two projects already!
